Offers free services to students, faculty, and staff who would like to discuss a piece of writing with an informed, sensitive reader. These are by walk-in or appointments. They work with writers on a wide variety of projects and at any stage of the writing process, from inventing topics to editing at the sentence level.

RAP (Research Advisory Program) Sessions provide students the opportunity to meet with a librarian for in-depth reference assistance to identify appropriate sources for a research topic and uninterrupted time with a librarian. Library offers tutorials and guides on citing sources and research tutorials online. Students can also check out resources such as books, DVDs and movies, research journals, databases and study rooms.

If you are having academic difficulty or just want to do your best in a course, Tutoring Services provides resources that can help. Tutoring is free for all Appalachian students and offers weekly sessions (1-3 persons) in the UTS Lab and several Departmental Help Labs ( General Math & Statistics, Math 1030, Physics, Accounting ) that are accessible without an appointment.

Sign up for a free one-on-one appointment with the Director of Learning Skills Services to focus on a specific area, sign up for weekly appointments with a General Tutor who can coach you in learning skills applied to current courses, take a Skills Course, find answers to your study skills questions and learn on your own using our online resources and graphic organizers that are tools you might find helpful.

Attend the Supplemental Instruction (SI) sessions for your Chemistry or Biology course and gain a better understanding of the course content, improve your study skills, and earn a better grade. Attend SI to get together with your classmates and compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying the subject, and test yourself before the professor does .

Offers a full range of counseling services to all currently-enrolled students at no charge. These services include individual counseling, group therapy, couples and family counseling, and the opportunity for outreach and consultation.
